Named for an imaginary mountain in the Himalayas, Chimala has mastered the art of denim, from indigo dyeing the yarn and weaving the fabric to sewing and distressing each pair of its hand-finished jeans. That unique combination of nostalgia and meticulousness is what makes this pair special. Made in designer Noriko Machida’s workshop in the Japanese countryside, they are cut for a cropped, boyfriend-style fit with legs that taper to sliced and frayed hems. Finishing touches include five-pocket styling, copper rivets, a button fly, and a leather logo patch at the back.
