By the time portable lighters were introduced in the early twentieth century, London-based Alfred Dunhill was firmly established among the smoking set’s upper echelons. This “Half-Giant” table lighter, from the Mantiques Modern trove of vintage objects, dates from the 1940s. Plated in silver and wrapped in black crocodile hide, the patented design was made in England and carries the Dunhill name on its lift-arm and base.
