- Tracing its origins to 16th century “bed warmers” (lidded pans filled with embers from the fire), the modern hot water bottle owes its durable, huggable form to Charles Goodyear’s 1839 invention of vulcanized rubber. Our version combines utility with beauty. Replacing the traditional rubber model is soft plastic molded in one seamless, odorless piece that can be cleaned and disinfected with a bath in boiling water. We’ve outfitted the two-liter bottle in a custom suit of cable-knit cashmere: a soft, chunky-knit cover that can be slipped off for filling and cleaning.
