Romy Northover
New York City

Goldsmiths graduate Romy Northover lived and worked in Hong Kong, Venice, and Berlin before opening her studio at New York pottery mecca Togei Kyoshitsu. Traditionally trained in European ceramics, she uses Japanese techniques such as tebineri and rokuro to create works in a style she calls “ancient future.”

“I feel very connected to ancient, primitive arts and to raw surfaces and textures, but I’m equally into super refined design, styling, and modernist forms,” says the artist and ceramicist. “I like the dichotomy in technique, balance, form, and the experiential process.”
