Selected by Jenni Kayne:
Perfect Gifts, Cozy Accessories, and Understated Accents
Fashion designer Jenni Kayne approaches minimalism by way of her native California, embracing linear forms and unadorned silhouettes along with organic textures. She is, above all, a seeker of warmth—in inviting variations that range from sunny to cozy—and so needs no prodding to get into the holiday spirit while surveying the offerings at The Apartment by The Line – Los Angeles.
An avid hostess, Kayne gravitates toward serving pieces and accents that will brighten any gathering. “I’m always excited to find elements that will add dimension and texture to a tablescape,” she says, admiring a brass tray from Azmaya of Japan. “I’m loving anything brass right now, and this is the perfect gift for any hostess.” Scented candles are another go-to gift, and she is especially fond of Coqui Coqui’s Tabaco for “a small token that easily adds comfort to a room.”
Accessories also make perfect presents, says Kayne, who is rarely without a wide-brimmed hat. “This hand-shaped fedora by Albertus Swanepoel is the ideal shape and construction for everyday wear,” she says. “And it’s a great gift for anyone going somewhere warm for the holidays!” She also recommends bestowing the “thoughtful and personal” gift of jewelry, such as a clean-lined ring by Gabriela Artigas. When in doubt, opt for rose gold, advises Kayne. “It’s a staple that can be incorporated with silver and gold pieces.”
The choice of what to wear during the holiday season is made easier by lambskin mules that she reaches for to ground any ensemble. The handcrafted slip-ons, from her own collection, are not only “dressy without trying too hard” but also exceptionally comfortable—a quality shared by the chunky crewneck sweater that quickly became her fall favorite. “I’m excited to gift it,” she says, “as it’s classic, wearable, and so soft.”
